MotoringFile at the Chicago Autoshow

A couple of us at MotoringFile will be making the long trek down Lake Shore Drive to the Chicago Auto Show press preview tomorrow. As we do every year we’ll be giving a sneak peak of the show, the MINI wares, and trying to get some answers out of the friendly MINI PR folk. We’ll also be debating the merits of Ferrari’s chicken salad sandwich over Jaguar’s ham and swiss and counting the number of burgandy trousers worn by members of the press.

Chicago is the largest autoshow in sheer size and it’s a very important show for the automakers as well. We expect all brands sold in the US to be well represented with new models and smattering of the usual concept cars. That said, MINI USA doesn’t have any surprises planned tomorrow either (you really think they could keep surprises from us?) but we do expect to see the MINI drag-car along with a fully accessorized 2006 JCW MCS and some dirty looks from the Scion booth.

Let us know if there’s anything you’d like to see and we’ll do what we can to accommodate.

Don’t forget to slap a motoringfile sticker on a few of the MINI’s at the show.

Fishbulb Feb 7th, 2006 Link

enjoy! We just went to philly, and the concept cars are really getting few & far between.

Be sure to check out the Honda Fit - pretty cool for what it is!

After the review, why not slap a MotoringFile sticker on some VW’s as well :)

Edge Feb 7th, 2006 Link

You ought visit the Hummer area and slap some of these on:

:D

Josh Wardell Feb 7th, 2006 Link

I’d like to see what you get for lunch in Chinatown. :)

David Feb 7th, 2006 Link

Pics of the Camaro concept would be nice!

Gabe Feb 7th, 2006 Link

I’d like to see what you get for lunch in Chinatown. :)

Kimchi & Beef Rice Bowl with a Mango Tapioca on the side at JoyYee of course!

GSKChicago Feb 7th, 2006 Link

Phoenix Restaurant in Chinatown on Archer has the best Dim Sum in the city (IMHO) and they also have the best Pi-King Duck anywhere as well.

marco Feb 7th, 2006 Link

oh man joy yee as some kick-butt bubble tea’s. mango…mmmm….

Absorbine_Sr Feb 7th, 2006 Link

Can you just slap some dealership personnel at the VW display? I still have some issues to work out with them. ; )

Actually, the wife and I will be at the show on Monday.

See if any MINI folks know anything about those MINI/Triumph rumors that were floating around a few weeks ago. I asked some folks at the MINI booth (likely just people brought in to hand out brochures) in Detroit and got some very blank stares. Perhaps there will be more informed people at the press preview.

Hopefully they’ll have the same DJ in their booth as in Detroit–she was pretty good.

O(=^=)O Capn Feb 7th, 2006 Link

…and some dirty looks from the Scion booth.

lol!

Already one step ahead of you ;-)

To heck with slapping Motoringfile stickers on the
MINIs.

Slap ‘em on the Scions!

Fireball Tim Feb 8th, 2006 Link

HEY! Where the heck’s MY Motoring File Sticker?!! Sheesh!! I’ll slap it on my rear…….. boot.

J/C Feb 9th, 2006 Link

It’s been a while since I’ve been in the land of wild aromatic onions. I’ll make my pilgrimage to the Downtown Portillo’s on Saturday.
Looking forward to your A-Show review Mr. Bridger. Am anticipating hooking up with Chicago MINIacs on such a blustery weekend, despite a 60 degree change in temperature. (don’t remind me of those single-digit lows!)

Siddhartha Feb 9th, 2006 Link

Gee, it was 72 degrees and we saw some 50 foot surf poundin’ in at Maverick’s yesterday. Oops. Schadenfreude. Sorry. :-)

Gabe Feb 9th, 2006 Link

Hmmm… what are you trying to do to me! Actually we got 2″ of snow here yesterday and I had a ball driving home… so all was not lost. And since it has been in the and out of the 50’s for a month (thank you global warming), I’m ready for some real winter!

Gabe Feb 9th, 2006 Link

BTW we’ll have a huge photo gallery (with captions!) coming tomorrow. I’ve decided to not do a real review of the show this year. Captions just seem more interesting.

George Feb 9th, 2006 Link

I’ll be checking out the show on Wednesday around lunch time. Hopefully, I’ll miss the bulk of the crowds. Looking forward to your pictures!

GSKChicago Feb 9th, 2006 Link

Gabe, I’m going to the First Look tonight. Anything that is a must see I should make sure to check out?
