Interesting. For the most part, the prices look pretty stable, compared to ‘06, which is good. The hyper-sport package is not a “hyper” version of the regular sport package, however; it’s a $1400 aero kit and sport plus suspension. The aero kit doesn’t appear to be available on its own.

Brendan Nov 1st, 2006 Link

Is the $500 “Sport Suspension” the same as the Hyper Sport Package “Sport Plus Suspension” ???

Jeff Nov 1st, 2006 Link

I think the “Aerodynamic Kit” at the bottom of the page for $1300 is the same?

Somewhere I read the kit that comes with the HyperSport Package is not the JCW one, however. Gabe, True/False?

So, newbie question here. I’m getting an automatic transmission. What’s Dynamic Stability Control? I am pretty sure I can’t get the LSD with an Auto.

JFS Nov 1st, 2006 Link

Looks like I HAVE TO order the “Hyper-Sport” to get the “Sport Supension Plus.” Is that accurate?

Thanks.

eto Nov 1st, 2006 Link

Nice, closest thing to the new Configurator this side of December!!!

JFS Nov 1st, 2006 Link

Will there be three suspension options on the R56?

1) Stock - No Cahrge
2) Sport Suspension - $500
3) Sport Suspension Plus - $1,400 (With Hyper-Sport)

What’s the difference between 2 & 3 above?

mataku Nov 1st, 2006 Link

oddities:
-sport suspension is only standard on covertible S? what happened here? before it was the convertibles that weren’t able to get the sport suspension.
-DSC no longer standard on S
-sport package of S is much better than that of regular cooper. Get similar items, but S gets Xenon headlights, whereas Cooper only gets fog lights and sport seats.

it seems the price difference between the Cooper and the S is lower than before, but now you are missing many things that you used to get: DSC and sport suspension, so in the end, the deal for the S isn’t as good as it was before. However, the S was a very good deal in previous years IMO.

nervous Nov 1st, 2006 Link

Where is the “lights package”?

bluzeke Nov 1st, 2006 Link

Looks like U.S. ‘07 Convertible owners will be the first and only stateside folks driving 1st Generation MINI’s with the supposedly desirable and now optional POWERFOLD MIRRORS!

Brendan Nov 1st, 2006 Link

I also noticed that the multifunction steering wheels is NA for the ‘07 Cooper S. Does that mean to get the multifunction wheel you’ll need to order Sport Wood or Sport Leather?

FrankInMiami Nov 1st, 2006 Link

DSC has never been standard equipment in the Cooper S. It used to be either a standalone option or part of the MCS “Sport Package”. ASC+T (Traction control)has been standard fare in the ‘02-’06 R53 MCS

I haven’t looked at the ‘07 US Spec sheet, but I can’t imagine MINI removing the ASC+T (All speeds traction control) from the basic MCS spec sheet.

Gabe Nov 1st, 2006 Link

sport suspension is only standard on covertible S? what happened here? before it was the convertibles that weren’t able to get the sport suspension

The convertibles were always able to get the sport suspension. What they could not get was the Sport Suspension Plus offered on the coupe.

DSC no longer standard on S

DSC has never been standard on the MCS

Is the $500 “Sport Suspension” the same as the Hyper Sport Package “Sport Plus Suspension” ???

I’ve confirmed with the powers that be that the Sport Suspension Plus in the Hyper Sport Package is the same Sport Suspension available as a stand-alone option. I’ve also fixed that typo in the spec sheet.

Brendan Nov 1st, 2006 Link

AWESOME Gabe!!! thanks for the answers! Ok So I’m getting the sport suspension!!! yay!!!

JFS Nov 1st, 2006 Link

Thanks, Gabe.

I understand LSD being a stand-alone option, but shouldn’t the “Sport Package” include the “Sport Suspension”?

Chad Nov 1st, 2006 Link

No flame spoke wheels with ZSP? Meanies.

Mark Smith Nov 1st, 2006 Link

Stop calling it “Sport Suspension Plus” everyone. It’s not called that on the R56. Now you have the standard “sporty” (description and not actual name) suspension and then the upgraded “Sport” suspension. No more plus on the R56.

FH Nov 1st, 2006 Link

It appears that H/K is gone with the 2007s?

Glenn Nov 1st, 2006 Link

yes, there is no H/K but there is some other “hi-fi” stereo. I just priced one out and it was only a little more than my ‘06 even if I get the nav but I would pass up the hi-fi. I like having everything as a stand-alone option. Some of the packages are a good deal, but others have stuff I don’t need or want so it is cool that you can just pay $200 or so for most of these options. I can’t wait until our dealer gets one we can drive. I don’t plan to get rid of the 06 any time soon, but it’s always fun to configure a new one just in case.

Michael (Mayim) Nov 1st, 2006 Link

Looks like I may be getting a new new MINI!

WxSquid Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

It has been reported on MINI2.com in the R56 forums that the hi-fi stero is still a H/K, just without the branding. Same speakers, processing, etc.

Jeff Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

I’m bummed they got rid of the Digital Sound Modul. That was going to be my upgrade of choice!

Gabe Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

It has been reported on MINI2.com in the R56 forums that the hi-fi stero is still a H/K, just without the branding. Same speakers, processing, etc.

Based on what I’ve heard from folks at MINI, that is not true. The Hi-Fi stereo is based on the 3 Series premium stereo which is not related to Harmon Kardon at all. In fact if you look across BMWs entire range you’ll see that they now offer no H/K products.

David Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

‘I understand LSD being a stand-alone option, but shouldn’t the “Sport Package” include the “Sport Suspension”?’

Now you know what us Canadians had to put up with while speccing out an R50 Cooper. I myself could not figure out how the $1,800 sport package did not include sport suspension plus. (it was an additional $500) Not MINI’s finest hour.

David Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

Oh yeah, and I’m still jealous that you U.S. customers can order sport seats as a stand alone option in the Cooper. This was never possible in Canada, and I can’t see MINI Canada changing this for the R56. :(
Such a long a la carte menu… drool…

Steve Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

If the dealers have this, when will it be available on MINI USA configurator?

Jeff Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

There was a website a while back that did a review of a whole slew of the major car manufacturer’s “standard” car stereos, including BMW and the MINI. Anyone know what site that was?

I’d like to read up on the BMW premium stereo.

Thanks in advance!

Is the Aero Kit now a factory installed option?? That would be sweet, as getting one wouldn’t require paying another 800 to 1000 bucks for dealer install.

Adam Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

Gabe - Any idea where the 5 color cabin lighting option is?

Jeff Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

Chad,

My MA told me the Aero kit (which he expects to be the one pictured on the mini.uk.co JCW page) is factory installed, as he referenced the current kit as being about 2350 or so, installed.

So, sweet indeed.

My dealer contacted me today and let me place my order. Very exciting to finally have a deposit down for one of the first of the 3/07 builds (gotta have the Nav and auto transmission…).

I have also emailed my dealer about the lighting option. If I hear anything, I’ll certainly pass it along.

Jeff Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

Anyone know where the Driving Light are? If they’re still being offered? Or just re-named?

Gabe Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

Is the Aero Kit now a factory installed option??

As reported earlier this week, yes the MINI aero kit is available factory installed.

If the dealers have this, when will it be available on MINI USA configurator?

No changes since we reported on this in July. It’s still slated for a December debut.

Anyone know where the Driving Light are? If they’re still being offered? Or just re-named?

This information doesn’t include dealer installed accessories.

Gabe - Any idea where the 5 color cabin lighting option is?

It’s not an option, it’s standard.

Jeff Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

Gabe:

Thanks for the info! Do you know anything about an alarm system? I thought I read that there was a standard “immobilizer” system and then also an audible one, which was an upgrade.

Have you heard anything about subscription costs for the Nav system?

Thanks! Your site is THE place to be this week! :-)

That’s interesting news, Gabe. I tried to check through the various news posts about the R56, but haven’t found anything indicating that it is going to be standard equipment. Can you help me?? :D

Chad in VA Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

As reported earlier this week, yes the MINI aero kit is available factory installed.

I thought I had read it here, but when I went back and looked, I couldn’t find it. Thanks for confirming Gabe.

Wow, the Sirius radio is now $950?!?!?
I hope that includes the $500 lifetime subscription.

Gabe Nov 2nd, 2006 Link

Thanks for the info! Do you know anything about an alarm system? I thought I read that there was a standard “immobilizer” system and then also an audible one, which was an upgrade.

You got it. More can be found here.

Wow, the Sirius radio is now $950?!?!? I hope that includes the $500 lifetime subscription.

It does. You can read more from our report last Sunday here.

Can you help me??

I can’t help anymore than say I’ve been specifically told it’s a standard feature on the new MINI. Sorry.

blalor Nov 3rd, 2006 Link

Poor Gabe. There are days when he could just be replaced with a search box. :-(

[...] We spend some time reviewing the R56 features plus build our own from the MINI USA pricing sheet. It’s fun! [...]

Jeff Nov 13th, 2006 Link

Hi!

In the US, there is a package called “Hyper Sport” that comes with the Aero Kit and Sport Suspension (plus?).

Some have heard this Aero Kit is the same as the JCW kit. OThers have heard it’s a new, seperate one (as yet unseen). Does anyone here (Gabe?) have more information on it, or maybe a friendly neighborhood dealer they can ask? My MA told me it is, in fact, the same kit (and a sweet deal at the price).

Hyper-Sport (ZHS) $1,400 (3/1/07): Aero kit, Sport suspension plus

ala Carte: Aerodynamic Kit (3/1/07) $1300/ZHS

The other question, of course, is, if the S already has the upgraded “Sports Suspension”, why spend the addtional $100 on the package when all you’re going to get is the Aero Kit?

Doesn’t the S model already come with an upgraded “Sports” suspension?

Thanks,
JMelrose

Sorry for multiple posts of this. I’m not sure which comments are being actively read anymore. Once the current news scrolls down the page it seems to get lost…

Charles Nov 18th, 2006 Link

Mini obviously has a very extensive options list. Which options / option packages are the most advantageous for?

* Performance
* Safety: Including, HIDs - significantly better than base headlights? HIDs versus adding fog lights?
* Practicality as a daily driver
* Comfort on long trips (especially seat choices)
* Roof racks (pros & cons?)

Which tire/wheel option provides the best overall balance among the following factors: Safety / accident avoidance / performance, ride quality, and freedom from pothole damage for both long trips & as a daily driver?

Thanks!
